I have been looking for a classic shirt dress for a while now. My love for minimal pieces like this are my fav since they allow you to have fun and accessorize. The shirt dress whether in crisp white, chambray, or ones that have a unique spin, like puffy sleeves, are polished and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. It can be layered with a fur vest, or worn over pants or shorts. If you prefer a shirt dress in a color such as soft blue, try layering a thin white turtleneck underneath and pairing it with a black belt and black booties to transition it from Summer to Fall.

Fashion and Food Collide

There are two things that I absolutely love, and they are fashion and food! To me they go hand and hand, and I had the chance to connect with foodie, Vanessa Pergolizzi of The Traveling Palette for dinner at Cure in Farmington, Connecticut.  I love the opportunity to meet like minded, talented, and driven women, have good conversation all while enjoying good food. My salmon was cooked perfectly with these delicious, thinly fried fingerling potato chips that decorated the plate -- I could have eaten a bowl of! My sangria (created with unique flavors) was the the perfect seasonal drink.  I would absolutely go back to Cure, and this time leave room for dessert!!

 Vanessa said: "I have been eyeing Cure since it opened about a year ago. What lured me in the most was that Cure sources locally whenever possible. This is something that is important to me because it is something I do as much as possible -- support small and local. I admire and am drawn to those who have similar values and recognize the importance of it, especially larger businesses.

Sourcing locally also means that menu boasts seasonal, farm-fresh items. I love variety, surprises and experiencing new things, so a menu that changes by season keeps me excited and intrigued. I enjoy the anticipation of what will be featured next.

I am no stranger to food and have made my rounds, and Cure introduced me to new food combinations and new food items in general. For my entrée, I decided to go with the sweet potato and quinoa burger with mushrooms, white beans, apple chutney, pickled onions, arugula, a Portuguese muffin, and a side of roasted squash flavored with cinnamon and brown sugar. Sure, I have had sweet potato and quinoa patties before, but never topped with apple chutney and pickled onions. I had actually never had apple chutney before, so I was happy to be able to finally try it. I was also surprised to discover what a Portuguese muffin was, and boy did I enjoy it! It was melt in your mouth kind of soft. When asked what I wanted for a side, I chose roasted squash. I was in for a treat when I got my first bite in and tasted the brown sugar and cinnamon. The flavors were so warm and evocative. It was delicious.

The calamari appetizer was adequate enough for two people to share. It was a perfect amount. I am a big fan of crispy calamari versus the softer version, and Cure provided that.

I would have liked to see more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu, though. More and more people are becoming aware and conscious about what they are putting in their bodies and modifying their lifestyles. It's important, I think, to recognize that and cater to those people as well.

In addition to good food, another factor that contributes to my dining enjoyment is atmosphere and ambiance. Cure screamed rustic, warm and contemporary, and I love that feel. I particularly enjoyed the seasonal décor. One of the first things I noticed when I walked in were the gourds and pumpkins in the dining room.

Although I enjoy a nice night out at a West Hartford or Hartford restaurant, sometimes, I want to get away. I like that Cure is located away from the hustle and bustle.

I have worked in the service industry since I was old enough to work, so I know what good customer service looks and feels like. I truly enjoyed interacting with the staff. Everyone was friendly and upbeat, and that is important when you are looking to create a good experience for customers. Our server, Mike, was incredibly accommodating, especially when we asked to get some good lighting for our food photos. 🙂  The food, the ambiance and the service would definitely take me back to Cure. I can't wait to see what next season's menu will feature!"

Dinner Talk: Over dinner, we talked a lot about food and business. Her passion and knowledge for what she does is was completely engaging. I had never heard of Ayurveda and became immediately intrigued. One of the services she provides for clients is Ayurvedic facials. Ayurveda is an ancient holistic healing system developed in India thousands of years ago. It puts a big emphasis on skin and skincare because it believes that what happens inside of our bodies always shows up on the outside, so if there are any imbalances, it will show on our skin.
